Laser Cutting for Metals & Alloys

Ambox can cut mild steel, alloy steel, stainless steels, nickel alloys, titanium and aluminum. We also cut plastics. We do not cut any red metals (i.e. copper, brass, bronze). These metals are too reflective to be laser cut, as they may damage our equipment. We process orders from 1 unit to 100,000 units on our laser. We do not have any preference as to quantity. The machines are ideal for lower production volumes (you do not have to invest in expensive tooling to produce an item).

We can cut up to a 5’ x 10’ piece on our Bystronic laser. We can cut an item 4’ x 8’ on our Mazal laser. We do not have a minimum size dimension on what can be cut. We do not cut parts less than 3/4” x 3/4” in size. We do not stack multiple thicknesses of material together for processing.

General tolerances are +/- -0.003”. Each part we cut is unique in its material composition, thickness and geometry. Each item has to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We are the original laser cutting job shop in Houston, so we have more experience than our competitors.

Equipment:

Bystronic 3015 Byspeed 4000-Watt laser with (2) 5’x10’ suttle tables
Mazak LaserPath 1500-Watt laser with 4’x8’x3’ working envelope

Laser cutting competes with three other cutting technologies.

  1. First, oxyfuel cutting. This is a great way to cut basic shapes from thick material. It does not cut to a close tolerance.
  2. Plasma cutting: It is a grat way to cut thick and thin material. It cuts to a closer tolerance than oxyfuel, but still not near a laser.
  3. The third is waterjet: Waterjet can cut thick materials to a close tolerance and it can cut thin material to a close tolerance, but cuts thin material very slowly compared to a laser. Also, since the material is in contact with water, carbon steels rust very heavily after cutting.
