Kevlar

With over 450 years of combined staff experience, Ambox has the expertise and ability to manufacture various parts and components in Kevlar. Kevlar, which was developed by DuPont in 1965, is a strong, light para-arimid synthetic fiber. The Kevlar fibers are spun into fabric sheets or ropes, which are then used in and for composite material products. Ambox has extensive combined expertise in producing Kevlar components for a wide range of applications and industries, and is well prepared to meet your stringent specifications for the Kevlar parts you need manufactured.

One of the most recognized characteristics of Kevlar is its excellent – and high – strength to weight ratio. Kevlar is acknowledged as being 5 times stronger than steel (when compared on an equal rate basis). Another advantage of Kevlar is that it does not rust. Ultraviolet light does cause degradation and decomposition, and, for this reason, is not recommended for outdoor use without protection from direct sunlight.

Currently, there are three grades of Kevlar - Kevlar, Kevlar 29, and Kevlar 49. Kevlar is used as reinforcement in rubber mechanical goods and tires. Kevlar 29 is used in a variety of industrial applications including as a replacement for asbestos, body armor, cables, and brake linings. Kevlar 49 has the highest tensile strength of the three Kevlars, and is utilized in plastic reinforcement for bicycles, airplanes, and boat hulls. Other Kevlar applications include racing sails, as part of a composite material for sports equipment (such as lacrosse and field hockey sticks, squash, tennis and badminton rackets, motorcycle safety clothing, and kayaks), and audio equipment. As a woven material, Kevlar is used for underwater applications including mooring lines. In addition, Kevlar has been used experimentally in clothing that produces electricity.
